WEEE Compliance

The Regulations

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006 came into force across the UK in January 2007. The WEEE Regulations affect companies that manufacture, import, distribute or rebrand electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) in the UK. The aim of these regulations is to make companies responsible for EEE at its end-of-life and the disposal of the EEE waste they have placed on to the UK market. The aim is to divert electrical and electronic waste away from landfill and incineration and encourage collection, reuse and recycling.

Companies are classified as producers, manufacturers and distributors or retailers and the products are split into business to consumer (B2C) and business to business (B2B).
